A sound mind in a sound body
وإذا كانت النفوس كبارا .. تعبت في مرادها الأجسامُ
When spirits are strong and willing
It would be hard for the bodies to have their desires fulfilled
من عَزَّ بَزَّ
Those who have self-esteem will excel
دولة الباطل ساعة، ودولة الحق حتى قيام الساعة
Falsehood and deceit rule but for a brief hour
whereas truth everlastingly reigns
لا ريبَ في أنّ الحياةَ ثمينةٌ .. لكنَّ نفسكَ في حياتكَ أثمنُ - الشاعر القروي
No doubt that life is precious
but even more precious than life itself is your own soul
الإعتراف يهدم الإقتراف
Confession lessens the impact of the wrong deed
لا يعرف العودَ كالعاجمِ
Only he who tests the stick by biting it knows whether it is tough or soft
Meaning
A first-hand experience is always authentic and reliable
ماذا يفيدُ الصوتُ مرتفعاً .. إن لم يكن للصوتِ ثمَّ صَدى؟
والنورُ منبثقاً ومنتشراً .. إن لم يكنْ للناسِ فيهِ هُدى؟

What’s the use of a loud sound
If it makes no resounding echo
And what’s the value of a spreading light
If it affords no guidance to people
تفاءلوا بالخير تجدوه
Be optimistic, believing that good things will come to you, and it shall be so
حَرِّض بنيكَ عَلى الآدابِ في الصِغَر .. كَيما تَقَرَّ بِهِم عَيناكَ في الكِبَرِ - الإمام علي
Instill good manners in your children when they are young
And urge them to behave rightly
That you may be proud of them when they get older
ملاحظة: يمكن ترجمة في الكبر أيضاً إلى: in your old age
إذا اشتبكت دموعٌ في خـدودٍ .. تبيّن من بـكَى ممَّن تَبَـاكى
When tears thickly gather on the cheeks
It is easy to distinguish the ones who are truly crying
From those who merely pretend to weep
من أعانك على الشر ظلمك
He who supports your evil actions wrongs you
لا في العير ولا في النفير
He is) useless and undependable in all situations and circumstances)
لا تغضبنَ على قومٍ تُحبّهمُ.. فليس يُدنيكَ من أحبابكَ الغضبُ
Do not feel angry toward the ones that you love
For anger never draws you close to your loved ones
التواني مفتاح البؤس
Procrastination is the key to misery
لا تظهرنْ ذمَّ امرءٍ قبلَ خبرهِ .. وبعدَ بلاءِ المرءِ فاذمم أو احمدِ
Don’t blame a person before you have had a first hand experience with him
Once you have figured him out, you may then blame or praise him
